TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My background is in wildlife ecology and conservation biology. I worked in the field on ecology projects for several years before teaching. My first teaching position was at an urban, progressive, experiential, project-based high school, where I worked for nine years. The approach was predominantly project-based learning, students earning their credit/standards through student-initiated projects. All of my products posted in my are store are created with experiential learning in mind.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Experiential, project-based, inquiry focused, student-directed, cooperative learning, community-based, travel-based.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a mom of 2 young children. I love reading, traveling, cooking, everything outdoors, health, yoga and more. I go through phases of intense interest in one idea or concept. For example, I'm currently fascinated with plasticity of the brain and women's issues worldwide. Something creates a "spark", like a documentary for example, and then I'm off! This is how I approach learning with my students. I provide the sparks or the input, they latch onto something that catches their interest, and I watch them take off on an awesome learning adventure.
