TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This marks my fourth year as a teacher. My teaching experience has been in the middle school ELL classroom. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science to ELL students. I am passionate about making science academic content comprehensible for my ELs. As well, I have been tackling 8th grade ELA for the EL the past two years. What I have learned in my short time so far is that teaching is an enormous challenge, but I love it more than I could have imagined.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is mostly organized chaos. ELs need to be challenged and academic content cannot be held back from them. However, there must be an incredible amount of scaffolding, modeling, and differentiation used to get that content to the student. I find that hands on, explicit, and engaging activities are extremely beneficial. Most of my lessons are built on the vocabulary and the content of the grade level but then geared to the many different proficiency levels of an EL.
