After teaching elementary art for 25 years, I'm on to my second career of making it easier and more fun for other teachers to teach art!
I teach with big ideas and relate my art lessons to my students' personal lives. I like to give students as many choices as possible and this has been the inspiration for my Roll & Draw and choice drawing pages. I encourage students to make mistakes and make drawings that are not perfect because this is how we learn. Art is a process and all artists are somewhere in this process. Celebrate where you are, but stay on your journey!
My goal is to make lessons fun so all students will want to give it a try. I'm also looking for ways to make the life of an art teacher easier by staying organized and spending less time on creating assessments and other things that take away from your time getting ready to make art.
I became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2006.
I received my BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and my MA in Art Education from The Ohio State University.
I started my Expressive Monkey website in 2011 as a way to share my drawing lessons with my students and other teachers. To see more lessons and information about how I teach online visit my Expressive Monkey Blog and Expressive Monkey Website!
