TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Teacher of high school English since 1995 mostly in regular level and inclusion, Master in Art of Teaching English, Nationally Certified in 9-12 ELA, instructor at Duke Young Writers Camp (working mostly with middle school age), and all around great guy. Also taught middle school summer school for six years. Created the Extreme Guide to the NCFE and the Slaying the Beast English EOC web site to help teachers in my state increase their scores for the North Carolina state exams.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Fun and active. The students I teach do not like English in general, so I sell it to them by trying to make it as different as possible than what they have experienced previously, but still maintaining the rigor and expectations of end of course ability.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Board certified Chosen to participate in the NC Governor's Teacher Network Asked on local and state level to lead professional developments in the art of co-teaching

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

English degree with teacher licensure from UNC-Wilmington in 1993 Master in Art of Teaching English from UNC-Wilmington in 1995 Nationally Certified in ELA in 2007 and renewed

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Married to a fantastic woman who is also my inclusion teacher and we have three kids that are awesome. _Brave New World_ is my favorite novel, _Macbeth_ is my favorite Shakespeare play, _Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time_ is my favorite novel to teach, and perhaps most importantly, Spider-Man is my favorite superhero while _Empire Strikes Back_ remains my favorite Star Wars movie. Spider-Man hands down is the best superhero ever
