Currently, I am in my fifteenth year of education. I taught K-12 music and special education in the beginning of my career, then spent twelve years in the third grade classroom. Growing up, our family ran group homes for adults with disabilities and I am currently the personnel manager for our home. I'm also the Director of Special Services in our district.
When I was a teacher, I taught on a 3rd & 4th grade multi-age team with three other teachers. I'm a huge fan of active engagement. I love having what I like to call "controlled chaos" in my classroom. There was always somebody up and around, but my students were on task and learning. When I was in the classroom, I combined Whole Brain Teaching, The Leader in Me, and Cooperative Learning strategies to make my classroom run as smoothly as possible. I used Reading and Writing Workshop in my classroom, as well as Interactive Notebooks. Currently, I am working on resources for adults with disabilities, as well as special education forms, data-collection resources, and compliance management paperwork.
