I have 35 years of teaching experience at wide-ranging grade levels (elementary through high school) and various learning levels (inclusive classrooms and special education; K-5 ungraded). My experiences in a special education setting in particular, have enriched and enhanced my teaching abilities. In these classes, I had to cater to the academic needs of students who had different learning abilities, areas of deficiency and behavioral disabilities. These students required customized/individualized lesson plans, close monitoring, and consistent positive engagement in order to realize their potentials. The challenges posed by this combination of circumstances have helped cultivate and hone my teaching strategies.
As an educator, I have found that hands-on and engaging lessons motivate and challenge students without introducing undue frustration into the learning experience. To this end, I believe that a teacher's lesson plan should be a clear, complete road-map that uses dynamic supplemental documents to steer both the teacher and students successfully through new material.

Early in my career, I taught English as a Second Language in settings where most of my students entered the kindergarten class with no knowledge of reading or writing. In such situation, my role was definitely very challenging but I was able to successfully work with my students to help them attain an international standard in English proficiency. My teaching background helped a long way because I utilized my reservoir of experience to deal successfully with ESL students both in regular and my later teaching position, in a special education setting.
