TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 4th year teaching 5th Grade in the New Mexico school system. Before I became a teacher, I tutored students at a before and after school program for six and a half years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is mixed with traditional teaching, group activities, and self paced learning. I mix all of these methods sometimes on a daily basis because I believe that the students become more engaged in their learning when their are differences. But on the other hand, I also know that students will not do so well if there is not enough structure. I balance group/self-paced classes with traditional lessons to ensure that my students are learning to their best potential.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was on the Dean's list each year that I attended college for such a high GPA and attendance record.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended Albuquerque's community college starting at the age of 16. I then transferred to our University of New Mexico. I started as an Art Major and I focused on that for a few years. I thought I was going to become an interior designer, but God had other plans. Once I fell in love with teaching through my tutoring job, I applied for the College of Education at the University of New Mexico. I finished in a few years and graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am married to my fantastic husband, Jeremiah Silva and we live in an apartment in our favorite part of Albuquerque. We love watching TV shows at night and just lounging. We are very close to our families. and enjoy spending time with them and our close friends. Besides teaching, I love exercising, reading, and listening to music!
