TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Jo Meserve Mach is an Occupational Therapist. Her 35 years of therapy experience include 17 years of working in Early Intervention. Vera Lynne Stroup-Rentier is an Education Program Consultant. She has 25 years of experience teaching within the field of Special Education. Mary Birdsell is a freelance photographer. She worked for four years as a middle school teacher in communication and theater.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Jo, Vera and Mary believe that children can learn actively within everyday life experiences. They have combined their work experiences and background to create books which show how children learn and gain skills needed for self-determination. These skills include engagement, self awareness, making choices, problem solving, self regulation and self advocacy. Finding My Way Books share true stories of children gaining skills they need to become adults who live self determined lives.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

In 2006, Vera received the Kansas Division for Early Childhood (KDEC) Award of Excellence. In 2014, Vera received the Kansas Division for Early Childhood (KDEC) Outstanding Student Award. In 2004, Mary received the state of Kansas award for Teacher of Promise.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Jo graduated from the University of Kansas with her BA in Occupational Therapy. Vera has a BS-Ed in Elementary Education/Library Science and a M-Ed in Special Education-Early Intervention. She will be completing her PhD in Special Education from the University of Kansas in the near future. Mary has a BSE in Speech and Communication from Emporia State University and a certificate in Photo Technology from Kaw Area Technical School. She completed 10 hours of graduate credit in English as a Second Language from Kansas State University.
