TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught pre-schoolers through 8th graders, as well as almost twenty years of teaching writing classes for adults through San Diego State University Extension. In Manhattan Beach, I first taught in the regular classroom, where I was a master teacher, then taught for four years in the gifted program. I've organized and run before- and after-school classes and tutored individual students. I love teaching kids about Greek and Latin roots using TPR (Total Physical Response) and posting cool info on Greek and Latin roots at FB at CryptoKids..

MY TEACHING STYLE

Warm, interactive, supportive. I now write children's books, but while in the classroom I loved getting cues from the kids, picking up on an individual child's learning style, figuring out what was causing a hiccup in understanding, then going at the problem from a different angle. As a logophile, exploring new words and books were part of every day's studies. Early on, I saw the difference hands-on learning made with my students.
