Other than the first 2 years in which I subbed in Kindergarten through middle school, my 19 years of teaching have been in K, 1st, and 2nd grade. People often ask which grade I like the best and I just have to say that I love them all!
My style is to differentiate as much as possible, part of that is teaching phonics and decoding in small groups. In my classroom we do Daily 5 and I use Math Work Stations. I would prefer my students to be active learners, working together on an activity or playing math or reading games as much as possible. I believe that my students will learn the most when they're having fun!
