I have taught fourth and fifth grade for five years at a Charter School in Washington, DC. During my tenure at the school, I have helped transform it from a failing school to one of the top performing charter schools in Washington, DC. Each year, my students have entered my class two to three years below grade level in reading and math. With the materials at my store, my students have consistently grown two years or more in reading and math each year.
I utilize Close Reading strategies, Guided Math, and small group instruction all designed around the Common Core State Standards. Additionally, I emphasize cooperative and project-based learning.
For three consecutive years I have been recognized across my charter school district for the highest student growth in my grade-ban.
I graduated with honors from Furman University in Greenville, SC and earned a Bachelor's in Political Science. I also earned two Master's degrees from Lesley University in Elementary Education and Special Education. In addition to my degrees, I have a Level I Certification in Wilson Reading System.
I live with my wine-maker husband in Washington, DC, and I spend as much time as I can at the beautiful farm where he makes all the magic happen. http://www.rocklandsfarmmd.com
