As the 2016-2017 school year comes to an end I am finishing up my 1st year of teaching! Although I do not have a lot of experience in the classroom, I learned a lot of my creativity through my jobs in the fashion world.
My teaching style is student centered with a focus on developing real life skills! I teach the Principles of Human Services class (what used to be Home Ec) at my school. I absolutely love it. I know that everything I am teaching my students will be things they experience in life. I always keep their engagement in mind when coming up with any activity and they love knowing I am not just feeding them pointless work that I just want them to complete to look busy.
First Class Teacher for MISD- MISD employees around 400 new teachers every year. From these the top teachers are selected based on their performance throughout the year. The leadership committee then nominates their desired teacher to the district to be awarded. Only around 30 teachers get it for the entire district.
I graduated high school in 2008 from Poteet High School in Mesquite, Texas. I then went on to get my BA from Baylor University and graduated in 2012. Here I was awarded with being part of the Dean's List. After graduating I went on to work in the fashion world from New York to Dallas. After a few years and thinking long and hard I decided I wanted to teach so went and got my alternative certification through Texas Teachers and now here I am!
I am a fashionista turned teacher back in 2016! After living and working in New York City I decided quickly that I wanted to take what I knew about the business world and help grow young minds! As glamorous (not all the time) as the fashion world was I learned I can still share my passion for fashion with my kids while educating them about their possible future careers or college education!
