I love teaching children and teach music in a Title One elementary school, grades K-6 plus special ed classes. I have my bachelors in music education with an emphasis in secondary band and a masters in music education with an emphasis in early childhood. I taught high and elementary school bands for a year and then stayed home with my 3 children for many years while I taught part time early childhood parent/child music classes. After my youngest son, who is high functioning autistic graduated from high school, I took the first year of a Kodaly certification course and realized I could teach elementary music. I started that year as a part time teacher, the second teacher, in a local elementary school. After that year, I realized that I could handle my own program. This is my seventh year at my Title 1 elementary school. I teach 48 1/2 hour classes a week. I am thrilled that I finished my 3 years of Kodaly Certification.
I teach with a Kodaly emphasis
I have received seven grants, one for ukulele's, two for djembe's, two for electronic pianos, one for tubanos, and one for a throwable microphone. Last year, I was asked to be the director for our district choir festival, where I directed a choir of 700 students. It was a great honor! I was just named as the top teacher of the year for 2015-2016 in my district out of all teachers, not just music. Such as honor!
I have my bachelors in music education with an emphasis in secondary band and a masters in music education with an emphasis in early childhood. I am Kodaly certified.
I teach general music in a K-6 low income Title 1 elementary school. I have every class twice a week for a half hour, plus plus two special ed classes.
