I have been teaching for 30 wonderfully creative years! I absolutely love my classroom and my students. I have taught in a suburban environment for seven years, but the bulk of my career has been spent in an urban environment. I am currently teaching 8th grade Language Arts, but I have taught grades three through eight. I do love my middle schoolers!
I thrive on finding the absolutely easiest and most enjoyable way to help my students understand concepts. I always try to put myself in their position and attempt to imagine whether I would be able to understand what I'm teaching, and whether I would be actively engaged in the lesson.
I have been Teacher of the Year. I also started a yoga class with my students, and we practice relaxation with breathing exercises. I won a Michael Jordan grant several years ago. This enabled me to showcase an entire unit on the rainforest. I also won a grant from the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, N.J. to start a large organic garden with my sixth grade students. The produce from it was used by their families all summer and fall.
I received a BA in Psychology from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. I worked as a Social Worker for a few years, and then I decided to return to school and obtain my teaching degree. I'm certified to teach K-8.
I absolutely love dogs!! I am involved with several rescues, and the sweet dog in my picture on my profile is the first shelter dog that I ever helped find a home-about a year ago. When I retire, I want to become involved with our local shelter.
