Learning Specialist Paul Robeson Charter School August 2012 – Present (1 year 1 month) I am currently Learning Specialist for a Charter school in the first year of turnaround. I am responsible for differentiating instruction for diverse learners of all abilities levels in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I am a co-teacher, in both a lead teacher and support capacity, for Reading, Writing, Math and Social Studies. I am also responsible for creating and implementing Individual Education Programs for students with learning disabilities that is geared toward the individual learners and developed to ensure the success of all students in a public school setting. I employ the use of technology to meet the needs of my students. Through the use of such programs as: Khan Academy, Read Naturally, Aimsweb, Reading A-Z and Moby Max. All of these responsibilities align with Scholar Academies' fervent goal to close the achievement gap in historically underserved communities and create the path for success for our students. Teacher Hawaii Department of Education July 2007 – July 2012 (5 years 1 month) I was a Resource Room Teacher, Inclusion Teacher and Care Coordinator - responsible for facilitating all special education services, as well as any ancillary services for students with disabilities. In my time spent working on the Leeward Coast of Oahu, I worked as a 3rd, 4th and 6th grade Special Education Teacher. I was a Generalist (providing instruction in all subjects), as well as a specialist in both modified Math Instruction and Intensive literacy strategies. My primary approach centered around multi-sensory instruction in both math and language arts. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham Multi-Sensory Approach to Literacy, as well as Mortensen Multi-Sensory approach to mathematics. Both programs were employed in order to reach the diverse learners on my annual caseload, as well as provide concrete direct instruction prior to advancing to abstract concepts. My responsibility as Care Coordinator was to facilitate IEP meetings and ensure that the IEP is implemented with fidelity for all students on my caseload. My job was to ensure that students who required, speech, occupational therapy, para-professional 1 to 1 assistance, and counseling services, amongst others, were properly administered.
