TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a certified Special Education and Elementary Education Teacher. My experiences include working with students with learning disabilities, autism, emotional impairments, cognitive impairments and students in the general education population. I have experience teaching abroad in South Africa and Belize, where I provided professional development opportunities in Literacy, Reading Assessments and Special Education Training. I have worked in resource room settings, co-teaching settings, self contained classrooms and in the general education. I am currently running a small home-school cooperative, Free Spirit Learning, in Placencia, Belize!

MY TEACHING STYLE

April Brown is an enthusiastic and passionate educator who continues to seek the most innovative and meaningful ways to teach her students. With over ten years of classroom experience in diverse settings, April is still searching to deepen her philosophy of education through connection and research. April believes in a holistic approach to education that sees each child as an individual. She doesn’t believe in a specific “curriculum,” instead she believes that all children need to have access to a healthy, stimulating environment, filled with wonder, literature, and nature, so each child can develop the foundational skills he/she needs to learn independently and cooperatively in life. She is starting her Master’s at Antioch of New England in the Experienced Educator’s Program with a focus on Mindfulness in January.
