Linda Young, special education teacher, and Shelley Frost, drama teacher and videographer, are two sisters who developed Friends Play Group five years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area. They have taught 12 sessions of their social skills program affecting over 100 children (classes are kept small). They have seen great success through anecdotal stories parents have reported to them over the years. Friends Play Group is a program of the San Carlos Childrens Theater. Linda Young is a credentialed teacher, M.A., and administrator of Special Education, San Mateo County School District. Shelley Frost has taught elementary school drama for nine years is the author of two books and multiple school plays and school movie scripts.
Our teaching style in a typical Friends Play Group setting is Linda Young being the primary teacher and classroom manager. She teaches the social skill lesson of the day. Shelley Frost teaches the yoga segment, theater games and teaches the children basic drama knowledge such as pantomime, improvisation, and imagination. We keep the class well organized yet with an element of fun and encourage laughter with learning.
Friends Ply Group recieved a grant from the Bill Graham Foundation which we have used for our materials and curriculum development.
