I am a teacher for Montgomery County Public Schools in Bethesda, MD. I am about to begin my third year of teaching in the fall of 2014. I have taught third grade for two years and most recently, switched over to first grade. I absolutely LOVE first grade as I truly enjoy teaching students to both decode words and actually comprehend what they are reading. I also have experience as a soccer coach and Girls on the Run coach.
As a D1 collegiate soccer player, I realized that I often played better for coaches who made me feel loved, special, and believed in. As a teacher, I try to bring that same philosophy into the classroom. I do my best to build a personal relationship with each of my students so that they too feel loved, cared for, and smart. In my experience, when students feel this way, they are more likely to build confidence about their abilities--leading them to be more successful in the classroom. I also believe that with the demands of today's common core standards, it is our job as teachers to make the teaching content as fun and engaging as possible. As you will see with many of my products, I do my best to engage students with creative and fun follow up activities in hopes of providing long lasting connections to the material being taught.
