TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have worked in child care through college, all in the area of education. For the past 10 years, I have been teaching first grade. I taught kindergarten before that for 5 years, 4 of which was in a program for at-risk students. Now, I work with a fabulous team of 10 first grade teachers whom all have great ideas to make our students super smart and experienced!! I love working with them and strive to find success in every day, even the bad ones.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a very eclectic background. I have worked with a great variety of children coming with skill deficiencies, as well as students needing enrichment. I believe all students learn more when given material at their level. I work hard to differentiate my materials, as well as create new games based on their interests. Who wouldn't want to learn more sight words or math problems if they were created on hockey pucks or kitten cut-outs?! We also laugh a LOT in my classroom. Humor is important, and we find some every single day!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was honored as Teacher of the Year for the Hutchinson School District in 2007.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Kindergarten from St. Cloud State University in 1987; in 2004 I received my Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from St. Cloud State University. I held a license for Education in the MNSCU college system, for many years. I taught 9-10 classes for Ridgewater College in Hutchinson and Willmar as adjunct faculty. These classes were in Early Childhood Education. I was also an Infant Toddler Trainer for the State of Minnesota for many years.
