I have been a teacher for 11 years. I started out as a classroom teacher then became the reading teacher. After a number of years working with small groups of children with learning disabilities, I became the literacy coach in my school. As the literacy coach, I modeled lessons for my fellow collegues as well as conducted study groups in all aspects of the balanced literacy program. I presented literacy workshops to the faculty and also to the parents of my school.
I have a very hands-on teaching approach. I believe in modeling what I want my students to accomplish and then giving them the opportunity to try it for themselves. I also like the children to work with partners and share their ideas.
