TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a High School Language Arts teacher, and have taught Remedial Reading and Freshman Composition the college level for over ten years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I'm intrigued by the idea “the Flipped Classroom”, and have been working diligently to "flip" my lessons. This philosophy suggests that we “flip” the way we think of the traditional classroom experience. Typically, students learn a lesson in class and then complete homework assignments to reinforce the lesson. In a “flipped” classroom, this is reversed. Instead, students arrive to class with prior knowledge about the upcoming classroom activity by completing relevant homework assignments. Students are then prepared to actively engage with each other on higher level critical thinking activities that involve analysis, evaluation, and synthesis. My goals is to create a classroom environment where students are more interested and active learners, and my lessons reflect this philosophy.
