I have been a Physical Education teacher for over 11 years in sunny San Diego. While I've taught all grades, my concentration is in elementary physical education. I was fortunate enough to be the first PE teacher at my site and given the opportunity to create and teach our standards based component curriculum for over 800 students. I'm currently the San Diego CAHPERD Region President and was the 2012 CAHPERD Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.
*I teach children physical literacy. They learn how to move skillfully with confidence in a wide variety of activities, and how to stay healthy and physically active for the rest of their lives. *I recognize the positive benefits of physical activity for student health and academic achievement. Recognizing that personal, social and physical education is a crucial and integral part of a child’s education, I ensure that students engage in healthful levels of vigorous physical activity to promote and develop the student’s physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. *I utilize unique, enjoyable, and inclusive activities that maximize the available time to be physically active, while guiding each child to discover their own personal physical activity interests. *I work to develop physically educated students who have a strong sense of self identity, and the social skills to work cooperatively with others. *I prepare today’s children with the knowledge, skills and motivation to be tomorrow’s active and healthy adults.
