TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Chemist for 22 years in industry, Teaching experience 7 years science, primarily high school Chemistry and Physics.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I involve students in hands on, minds on labs and exercises, like the spreadsheet assignments available here on TpT. I like these spreadsheet exercises because they give the student immediate feedback on whether they are correct or not, allowing them to correct in a no harm, no foul way. Some spreadsheets also are self scoring. Some spreadsheets randomly assign problems to students, so students can't simply copy neighbor's answers. Since the screens turn color on correct completion, I can stand where I see the class' screens and immediately know which students are succeeding and which need assistance or direction. This is something not immediately evident classwide for paper and pencil worksheets. They are easy to grade, because if the cells have turned color, the student's answer is correct. Further, these fit on one screen, and I find that I am more comfortable using fewer of these types of problems than if I assigned normal worksheet problems due to the immediate feedback provided here. Also, I feel that navigating with these assignments are preparing high school students for the computer assignments, which come with a host of submission requirements, that they will face at university.
