Gail Hennessey

I taught for 33 1/2 years, teaching 6th grade for all but one year in K and 5th grade. I retired in 2006. I earned my BA in early secondary social studies education at Binghamton University. I worked from 2006-2012 as an adjunct professor at SUNY Cortland supervising student teachers in the history department.

In 1988, I was awarded the Elementary Social Studies Classroom Teacher of the Year Award from the New York State Council for the Social Studies. Additionally, in 1988, I was also awarded the Outstanding Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year Award by the National Council for the Social Studies. I was selected as Outstanding Alumni by SUNY Oneonta in 1988 and Outstanding Alumni ,MST Program,Binghamton University,1980.

I have been writing professionally for over 30 years and am the author of over 35 books for teachers and young people. My latest book were published 2020 by Red Chair Press(Mrs. Paddington and the Silver MousetrapsAnd Fashion Rule!(clothing rules in Middle Ages)..My articles have appeared in Scholastic publications(Middle Years, Instructor, Super Science, Science World, Junior Scholastic and Scholastic News online). Additionally, I have written for National Geographic Kids, Times for Kids, Cobblestone, Faces, Dig, Calliope, Ask, Faces, Studies Weekly, Glo Adventurer, Action Magazine, Ranger Rick, Highlights for Children, Boys' Life,Jack and Jill and other publications.
