I have taught five years in inner city schools and 4 years in a public charter, Teaching everything from seventh grade esl math to third grade. One thing that the very diverse students had in common was that they all had a desire to learn, especially if they felt successful, and were engaged. Video games are so appealing because they offer entertainment and immediate feedback- the player knows how well he did and receives some sort of reward for their success.
Social constructivism with a blend of guided inquiry, direct instruction, and gaming.
Highly efficient teaching award from Salt Lake District.
