TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Ten years (2004-2014) teaching an elementary garden club I founded for second through fifth grade. Six years substitute teaching at the elementary level. Four years leading a book club for above benchmark readers. Three years leading a writer's circle for above benchmark writer's. Talented and Gifted Advocate - Founded district parent support group for families of Talented and Gifted Students. Development of Garden Based Curriculum for elementary grades over ten year span. Previously taught Nursing at two different four year colleges, spanning an accelerated RN to BSN and FNP track Master's Degree program.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Didactic followed by hands-on experiences. Project based. Multi-disciplinary approach. Multi-leveled lessons appropriate for mixed grade levels (multi-age classrooms) or flexible grouping for talented and gifted students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Awarded a "Gold Star" from the Bluff Country Master Gardener Association in December 2013, for work through the Evergreen Garden Club with elementary students in Wisconsin. Over 1000 hours of community service. July 2014 - Friend of Education Award Recipient given by Holmen Middle School via the School District of Holmen, for work done while volunteering in a 6th grade ELA classroom over 2 years.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.S.N. (Bachelor's of Nursing) 1985 M.S. (Master of Science) in 1990 Child Health Master Gardener Certification in 2004, in continual good standing for the last ten years. Substitute teacher - six years, elementary education Donated over 1,000 community service hours working with elementary students on horticultural topics.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Developed and led a craft group at the Children's Museum of La Crosse for four years. Developed first grade book club for above bench mark readers - conducted for 4 years. Currently, not running. Developed third grade writer's circle for above bench mark writer's - Conducted for 4 years (currently in the fourth year). Assisted elementary students in getting published in national poetry compilations for last three years.
