I have been teaching since 2006. I started out as a 5th grade teacher in a self-contained classroom. I taught 5th grade for 6 years and then later became a Gifted and Talented resource teacher in 2012 after receiving my endorsement. I am currently working as a full-time GT teacher in Lexington, Kentucky. I teach daily Reading and Math groups to identified 4th and 5th graders. I also pull weekly enrichment groups for students in grades K-3 and hold groups for non-cognitive areas such as Creativity, Leadership, and the Arts.
I have a passion for working with high-achieving learners. I often believe they don't receive adequate attention in the classroom because teachers are under so much pressure to get their lower-performing students on-level. I love to challenge and engage them with critical thinking activities that make them have to "think outside the box." I strongly believe they should be pushed to their greatest potential and should demonstrate the same amount of yearly growth as other students in the classroom. "Boring" should not be a word in their vocabulary when they are describing school! I also have a passion for teaching Social Studies. As a 5th grade teacher, I taught Geography, Economics and U.S. History. I absolutely love finding ways to make this subject fun for students!
