TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Currently, I am a GATE teacher. I received my teaching credential in 1992. Since then, along with raising 3 children, I have worked part-time substituting or job-sharing as a teacher. In 2005, I was invited to teach a GATE pull-out program. With no curriculum and no suggestions, I created 2-hour enrichment workshops using student input, gifted resources, and the internet. With the goal of teaching topics that aren't normally addressed in a classroom, my workshops have always been a hit. My students come to class enthusiastic and excited to learn something new and interesting! Their parents are happy too! At one point, I was teaching at 3 different schools, 4th, 5th and 6th grades, with approximately 30 to 40 students per grade. Having taught hundreds of gifted learners, I've learned a lot! Most importantly, I have learned to truly appreciate the quirks, eccentricities, intelligence, and goofiness that gifted learners exhibit. Their thirst for novelty is insatiable and I hope that the products I share on their behalf help provide inspiration and a yearning for more. I also hope to make things easier for teachers to find quality enrichment or differentiation than it was for me.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have a passion for creating resources that are fun, unique and make students THINK! I believe that it is a teacher's job to teach HOW to THINK, not WHAT to THINK! I created GATER Educator to help fill those needs as a gifted and talented program support teacher for over 15 years. Anytime you might want to take a break from standard curriculum or daily routines, you will find my activities engaging and enriching. Teachers have let me know that my resources support easy-prep sub days, early finishers, high-achievers and are perfect for FUN Fridays as well! I hope that you can find resources to fill the same needs in your classroom!
