I have been teaching in a Title One Middle school in the southeast region for 13 years. I have taught all middle grades sciences. Two years ago I taught 8th grade math and 8th grade physical science. I have my masters in special education and my specialist in teaching and learning. I have taught in inclusion classes must on my teaching experience but the past two years I have been teaching advanced content to our gifted students. I started presenting over ten years ago when I was a member of PRISM and continue to present on various topics from technology, assessment, instruction and PBIS.
For the past two years,I have had a 1:1 classroom with I-Pads. I was a little worried about how the technology would integrate with my interative notebook and heavy lab based instruction. However, after creating a strong learning community with my other 1:1 teachers, I have created a LC with my students via google classroom and other apps. We learn from each other and respect each other's thoughts. I still believe in a balance between direct instruction and student-guided learning and exploration. Must of my kids say I am a little crazy at times but we all learn something everyday...even if it is not science.
