I am currently employed as a Literacy Coach and have been for the past 2 years. I have worked as a Reading Specialist for 6 years. Prior to this position, I was a classroom teacher. I have taught pre-school, second grade, third grade, fourth grade and tutored high school students.
I support classroom teachers and work collaboratively to implement a balanced literacy program throughout grades the grade levels (K-5th). As the Reading Specialist, I assist students in achieving grade level expectations in reading. The goal is to intervene early and assist students who need additional support in developing their abilities as readers. My literacy instruction consists of small group activities to support concepts of print, phonemic awareness, letter recognition, letter-sound correspondence, phonics, decoding, encoding, and other essential reading skills and strategies. Skills are taught through repetition, modeling and guidance. I serve as a resource for teachers, parents and the community. I am responsible for coordinating and providing leadership for the school-wide literacy committee. I also provide professional development for the teachers in my school as well as the teachers throughout the entire district.
