TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught kindergarten for 3 years beginning in 1980. After 3 years I took a 9 year leave to stay home with my 2 children. When my youngest began 1st grade, I went back to the classroom and taught first grade for 20 years. 3 years ago, I moved to 2nd grade. I have loved all three grades and treasure my time in each one.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Time... there is just never enough! So, integration is the name of the game. By teaching ELA standards through poetry created with Science or Social Studies vocabulary, I am now able to give every subject its due. I begin each week by introducing the ELA standards through reading the poem of the week. The students are introduced to the Science or Social Studies vocabulary as we read. This allows much more time for science experiments and more student created products. I love to write and create my own teaching materials that are persnalized to my student's needs.
