This check list is great to use with my Characteristics of Biographies Power Point. After viewing the Power Point, I would recommend reading a book together and allowing the students to use the check list to decide if it is a biography or not.
This is a silly poem about a dog named Max. Students are asked to pick out an example of alliteration, simile, metaphor and onomatopoeia. There is also an open ended question at the end about the mood of the poem.
This Power Point presents the things authors do to get the readers attention, explain something, and help the reader picture something. There is also a study guide sheet that goes with this Power Point.
This is a recording sheet for a week of quick poetry homework assignments. The assignment for Thursday is to write a poem about plants, but you could easily change this to fit the unit you are working on.
