I have been teaching for 12 years in Texas. The first 4 years, I taught 8th grade English/ESL. I then spent 1 year teaching 6th English. For the past 7 years, I have been teaching 7th grade English. This coming year I will be teaching ESL and English. I have been head of my department for 10 years, I have been part of the LPAC committee for 8 years, and taught several workshops on English strategies.
My teaching style is very different from many teachers. I combine ESL strategies with cooperative teaching techniques. Many of my students are part of the ESL program or have been; therefore, many of them still need those strategies to learn english. I enjoy doing cooperative teaching because that is a way for me to find out how much my students have learned. They must explain the lesson to each other to produce the work. I also model my assignments in order for my students to understand what they are required to do.
During my 3rd year I was nominated Teacher of the Year and in my 4th year of teaching I was voted Teacher of the Year. Ever since, I have been nominated for Teacher of the Year.
I graduated with a degree in education and a minor in English. I also have a master's degree in curriculum and bilingual education. I am certified from K-8th in all subjects and ESL.
