In New York State it is very difficult to land a permanent teaching job. Before my job teaching kindergarten I held many different positions and substitute taught in very grade level and subject area. For 6 months I taught an English Language Arts Lab, which is similar to Academic Intervention Services. I spent one year teaching high school Spanish and one year coordinating Academic Intervention Services for grades K-6. However I've spent 8 years teaching kindergarten.
My principal has said numerous times that my teaching style is more "Wiggles" than "Mr. Rogers". This means that is a lot of movement and noise in my room. My classroom it's self is very colorful and a little over the top. The pace is rapid and our day is packed full every minute. What you don't always see is the structure, procedures, and high expectations that I have for my kindergarteners. Or that the most of work that my kindergarteners receive is sometimes leveled for 4 different learning abilities. Our district has always pushed us to reach beyond the standards. Since I'm a bit of an overachiever this suits me just fine.

I have earned the title of the Glitter Queen at work because the teacher whom I replaced never used glitter. My love for all things sparkly has become notorious in my school. My custodian even offered to wax my floor with glitter in the wax. I think we all need to find some sparkle in our lives. Mine is glitter what's yours? One of the greatest loves in my life is Australia and New Zealand. I have been fortunate enough to travel to Australia twice and New Zealand once.
