TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching 5 years in a variety of settings from middle school in a rural community to teaching high school in the South Bronx. Throughout my time, I've been able to meet some amazing people who have helped me create a range of resources that focus on primary source text and images and that make literacy a central component to every class.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style revolves around discussion and student-centered work. I have found that using primary source texts mixed with whole class discussion has allowed student to draw conclusions about the past and make connections between a myriad of topics. In addition to primary sources, I use a variety of background texts to provide historical context for the sources. Context is an absolute requisite to understanding history. This method of teaching allows me to tailor each lesson to different sets of classes. I can add or remove certain scaffolds depending on the level of each class and each class can draw different conclusions depending on how they interpret the evidence.
