I have taught in the public school system for 35 1/2 years. I have served as a TAP Master teacher, Curriculum Coach, mentor teacher, computer facilitator, and classroom teacher. I have also taught upward bound students in physical science, forensic science and biology for 4 years. I established and operated a hands on physical science lab for 4th, 6th and 9th graders for three years. The lab provided skills for students who had difficulty passing the science portion of the LEAP. The lab equipped students with the skills to successfully pass the LEAP. I have presented" Frugal Science". workshops for the Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) I worked for 2 years at LIGO in Livingston, Louisiana as a RET (Research Education for Teachers) I have also taught special education for several years, which assisted me in being able to individually reach all student according to their learning styles.
I believe in a hands-on approach to learning. " I hear it, I see it, I do it and I understand" More student learning occurs when students are performing the skills that they are being taught. I utilized simple and technical equipment to extend student learning. I have tested and tried these techniques and the students had great success. Students have fun while they are learning. Upward bound students were taught using visual, hands-on and lecture.
I was teacher of the year, I received the Above and Beyond Award for my efforts in establishing the science lab. I completed the leadership training program for my district, and was awarded a certificate..
I have a Bachelors and a Masters in Education. I received both my Bachelors and Masters from Southeastern Louisiana University.
I have a wealth of information and equipment that needs to be shared with the next generation of science teachers As a master teacher I worked with Pre-K teachers to assist them in providing skills to their students.
