As a young teacher I just loved teaching Grades K to 6, but soon wanted to find out more about how kids learn and the best ways to teach them. With a Master’s degree in Child Development I achieved my dream job. For the last 20+ years I’ve combined my love of children, passion for teaching and sense of fun with my specialist understanding of cognition, language, literacy, math and learning. Quite a mix! Working in collaboration with wonderful teachers I design practical, innovative and effective teaching materials that really work for busy teachers and their students.
I love to sneak skilled, expert teaching and serious, structured learning into deceptively simple and appealing little packages. While the students are busy, interested and really having fun - their teachers know they are truly learning new skills and concepts!
I have 12 books for teachers in print published in the US and the UK- check out my name via Amazon to see the list! My shining moments have been when a student’s look of confusion suddenly changes to a beaming smile that says ‘I get it! I can do it!’
I have a teaching degree, a psychology degree and a Masters degree in Child Development from the University of London.
I have been a regular contributor to conferences and teacher education around the world. I have lectured at university level in child development, literacy, cognition, language development, mathematical development and special needs . But real kids struggling with real learning is still the thing that grabs my heart!
