I am a private piano and theory instructor who loves her job! I have been teaching for more than 40 years and have had the pleasure of seeing many students accomplish their goals under my tutelage. Additionally I have served in my church as the director of several children's musicals and as a member of the worship team. I have a special passion for teaching music theory and have run numerous classes over the years for students preparing for RCM theory examinations.
My approach to teaching has evolved over the years as I gained experience with teaching students with varying abilities, personalities, and learning styles. In general, I attempt to provided the needed tools to encourage success and help them reach their potential.
Many of my students have achieved top awards and standings in music festivals and conservatory examinations. The honours include the Royal Conservatory's Silver Medal for the top examination mark in the province and the Chatham Kiwanis Festival's Silver Tray for the top pianist. My students have also been chosen by festival adjudicators to compete in Provincials and to perform in festival Awards Concerts. In 2008, I was nominated by the local ORMTA branch to receive the provincial organization's Contribution to Teaching Award.
I am graduate of the University of Western Ontario where I pursued senior piano studies while completing my English/French degree. During those student years I earned my ARCT in piano performance and upon graduation, I established myself as a private piano and theory teacher. The following year I joined the Registered Music Teachers' Association and I have been an active member ever since, having served multiple terms as president. Additionally, I am an RCM Certified Teachers with Advanced Specialist standing in piano, theory and harmony.
I am the author of the GOLD MEDAL MUSIC THEORY series which is a set of print and digital materials based on the requirements of the RCM theory exams.
