I have spent 43 years in public education in Kansas, Colorado and Nevada. I spent 29 years of those years at upper grades elementary and 11 years at middle school teaching math, ELA and Social Studies. The last three years were serving as a district math trainer and instructional specialist, grades 6-8.
I am passionate about students carrying the heavy load in learning. Students can not develop reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking when they are given little opportunity to think. The products I design focus not only on standards but also extending the learning to develop thinking.
I received a Learning Forward Award for Innovation in Teacher Leadership (May, 2018), researching the minutes of instruction compared with achievement and teacher training on mitigating impact of limited minutes while maximizing instructional time.
I grew up in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated from high school there. I went on the Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas for undergraduate in elementary education and received my masters in Gifted Education from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. I have spent my years in education taking classes to develop passions and unfamiliar strategies and approaches. I am definitely a life-long learner.
I live with my family in the Reno, Nevada area. I walk daily, enjoy great books and thrive on travel.
