27 years of experience, teaching mainly middle school and high school English Language Arts. I have a Master's degree (with writing as a focus) and a TESL diploma, and I am a writer as well.
I love to get kids involved, and I believe in letting them see techniques used by professional writers, even early in their education. I love to workshop ideas with kids and do portfolio interviews to see what they're working on and spur their thinking. I set the bar high, but students almost always respond with top-grade work!
As a teacher, I've won a Golden Key Scholarship for being in the top 2% in my field in Canada. As a writer, I've won the Storyteller Award for short fiction and the SIWC, PNWA, and Magpie Awards (among others) for my poetry. My students have won many awards for their writing as well, the latest two having won the fiction and creative nonfiction categories in the Federation of BC Writers Valerie B. Taylor Awards. Two of my students and I have work published in Writer's Digest too.
B. Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. TESL diploma from UBC (University of British Columbia). Master's degree from SFU (Simon Fraser University).
I'm new to TPT, but I'm not rushing to put out piles of materials all at once. What I WILL put out will be quality work that you and your students can make use of immediately!
