I currently teach first graders with Autism within a self-contained classroom in a Title I public school with an Autism Academy. Prior to teaching first grade, I taught in an inclusive preschool classroom for students with autism and their typically-developing peers. While finishing my undergrad, I was an Applied Behavior Analysis therapist for children with Autism.
Because of the amazing population of students I teach, I love using visuals, manipulatives, schedules and centers in my classroom. I keep a very structured and routine-oriented classroom with many Applied Behavior Analysis strategies used throughout the day.
I had the great honor of being a Project PEACE Master's program scholar. Last year, I was also awarded with the Rookie Teacher of the Year Award :)
I graduated from Florida International University. Go panthers! I doubled major, receiving a Bachelor's degree in both Special Education and Psychology with Applied Behavior Analysis coursework. Soon after I returned and received an Advanced Master's degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and have lived in the US since 2001. While in school, I myself was an ESOL student for two years.
