I was Teacher of the Year at my high school for the 2011-2012 school year. I was also honored at the White House in the late 1990s (along with my school superintendent) for being among the first round of winners of the Federal Community Learning Centers Grant.
I hold a BA from Hofstra University and an MA from New York University in English/Creative Writing, and I received 36 credits in general and special education to earn certification as a high school English teacher and as a special programs teacher.
