I'm proud to have been an elementary school teacher for 18 years in the Seattle Public Schools. For the past 13 years, I've been teaching kindergarten and have mentored numerous student teachers over the years. I love the role of mentor, which inspired me to open this shop. Currently on leave to focus on raising my kids who are now in middle school and high school, I'm excited to share some of my "greatest hits" with other teachers in this forum. I love sharing ideas with other educators--- this profession is all about synergy!
I am all about Love & Logic, clear expectations, and setting up a classroom community where all feel respected. I provide many opportunities for the students to move around the room and make choices during the day. There is always a blend of teacher guided instruction and child-centered discovery. While we use the Common Core as our curriculum guide, I love to explore topics that are important to the children in class. By creating community and forming safe and loving spaces, my students feel encouraged to stretch themselves and grow.
Outstanding Educator Award, 2010- WA State PTA- The Outstanding Educator Award recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding educational opportunities for children and youth that are beyond the normal scope of their jobs to make the learning environment fun, beneficial, and challenging.
I graduated with a BA in Communication & Literature, and have my Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on Human Development and Personal Responsibility. I've been teaching primary aged children for 18 years and have learned A TON from the kids I've worked with. Year after year, the kids and their families are my greatest teachers of all.
