TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching drama for over thirty years. During those years I have taught in grades Pre-K-12th grade in the subject areas of Speech Communication, Theatre, English, 1st Grade and Creative Dramatics. Through the years, I have directed many theatre productions, coached UIL events and performed publicly in various venues. I loved the 12 years I spent in Middle School Speech and Drama and the 14 years I spent in Elementary Creative Dramatics!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want my students to know I truly care about each one of them as special, unique individuals. As an involved, hands-on, interacting, role model for my students, I try to empower and encourage them to be risk takers. I hope my students are challenged over and over and take what they learn in my classroom, the values, the knowledge, the experiences, and let it spill over into every area of their lives. I want to plant the seed, spark the flame, or start the ripple in the wave of learning. The visible growth can be seen as students gain confidence and explore the world of acting, storytelling, creating characters, improvisation and so much more. It is my belief that the arts and in particular drama/theatre can change children’s lives! I’ve seen it happen! I’ve seen it with pre-schoolers discovering the world around them and the wonderful world inside them. I’ve seen it with elementary school children, where every child gets excited about sharing and performing. I’ve seen it with pre-teenagers and teenagers who, through drama discover talents and interests, and a sense of self-worth which leads them to new and exciting opportunities.
