MOOSE CAMP is the name above my classroom's door. That's in large part because I consider myself an Educational Trail-Guide, and I've been guiding young Moose Campers for many years. In fact, I have been fortunate enough to have taught preschool, 2nd grade, 4th grade, K-9th grade in the homeschool community, and even students at California State University! Currently, I teach 4th grade part time in the private school classroom and homeschool my son (who is taking high school classes). Teaching is so much fun!
Work with the students to set high, realistic expectations. Then give them tools and empower them to reach higher than they dreamed! Teach them how to be responsible, then let them succeed!!!
Yes, I have a file drawer with many certificates in it. (Frankly, you can't teach for as long as I have without receiving some type of acknowledgement for achievements). But the best honor/awards are the little ones I get everyday... when my students are praised for accomplishments or character by other teachers....when my associates tell me what a fine son I have...when my mom says, "I am so proud of the woman you are." These are the types of accolades I want to help everyone achieve. These are the ones that matter.
*OUCH!* I went to college (sometimes ONE CLASS A TIME) for 15 years. Guess that's that value of persistence! Tried a lot of things and always ended up teaching, no matter what field I was in. Finally gave up and got my teaching credential.
I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Social Work. I have spent my lifetime teaching in one way or another. My interests include curriculum development and having fun with while learning what you need to know.
