I believe in creating a student-centered classroom. When students collaborate with each other it enforces their own learning. In my classroom, students are encouraged to work together to define problems, prepare possible solutions, put them to test and reflect on their decisions. I offer many opportunities for diverse learners to digest the material, by first making the material relatable and then making it palatable. I use various delivery methods of teaching (linguistic, visual, kinesthetic) to reach students. Having a stimulating educational environment and materials make learning attractive, and helps students grow mentally, emotionally and socially.

Always the people’s advocate, LaTanya Brooks is also a children’s book author, speaker and educator. As a young child, she was raised with the belief that no one should be disadvantaged because of gender, disability or background, and that education is a powerful tool in overcoming obstacles. Ultimately, in 2006, she decided to pursue a career in education. With her academic knowledge, she continues to inspire young minds. Questioned about the motivation to create children's books, she explained: “I want to design books that inspire children, especially at-risk children, to pursue STEM-related careers. I will continue to promote STEM awareness to create a more diverse STEM community.”
