I am currently teaching 5th grade in a new district but previously taught both 6th and 7th grade ELA as well as 6th grade Social Studies. In my 5th grade role I teach all subject areas (reading, writing, math, science, social studies, grammar). My students are truly amazing and they think of so many creative things each and every day that we work together. I taught 7th grade for four years, and I also taught 6th grade for a year teaching Language Arts as well as Social Studies; including Roman history, Mayan History, and economics. I have taught multiple electives that include speech and debate, college preparatory, and student council. Each elective brings a different aspect of teaching with communication, public speaking, respectful discussion, research, essay's, and helping our school and community.
I am a hands on learner and therefore I believe in teaching the kids with movements, getting up around the room and lots of class discussion. I feel that students learn more when they get to talk to one another and learn from each other. In my class students are leading discussions and working together both in book clubs and in their writing process. I do my best to help my students learn in the best way that they can and am always asking what could be changed in the classroom to help them learn. It's always about my kids.
