Even the brightest 6th graders struggle with whether to multiply
or divide when working with fraction word problems. I have
developed the following graphic organizer to help students to
decide which operation to use.

Students add and subtract to fill in the spaces of the puzzle.Great tool for students to evaluate their own work. If a number does not fit, that is a signal to them that they have made a mistake in their calculations.
Students find the quotients and use them to color the snowman correctly. It is a great tool to use to help students check their own work as they go. If they can not find their answer in the key, then they have worked the problem incorrectly.
Students find the product in each section then use the product to determine what color to use for each section. This is great for student self monitoring, if they find an answer that is not in the key, they know something is not quite right and need
Designed for a 6th Grade Math Class. Students find the quotient of a fraction and a whole number and two fractions. Students use the quotient to find what color each section should be. All answers are in simplest terms.
