I am a classroom teacher, turned stay-at-home mom. While in the classroom, I taught 1st and 2nd grades. I have a Masters in Education, with a focus in dyslexia and reading instruction. Now that I am home with my own children, I am teaching them to rhyme, decode words, read sentences, and comprehend what they are reading. You'll find most of the lessons in my store focus on my passion - teaching children to read.
In my classroom I used a mini lesson/independent practice format. I share new learning or strategies with my students through mini lessons, and then give them an opportunity to practice either independently, in pairs, or small groups. When I taught younger grades I used the guided reading format to work with students each day on their reading goals. As a mom, I work one-on-one with my daughters. We use three modalities of learning to master letter sounds, high frequency words, vocabulary words, grammar concepts etc. My lessons incorporate visual, auditory, and tactile experiences to ensure mastery learning. We use a combination of paper/pencil activities and digital activities to learn.
