I taught elementary, junior high and high school English before moving into Higher Education. My background includes six years in K-12 education, five years managing a community college writing center. and six years teaching college writing. I currently teach for two different universities.
Because my background is also in writing centers and tutoring, I believe all writers will improve with personalized, one-on-one feedback that acknowledges their writing strengths first. I also believe that humor, appealing graphics, and the inclusion of pop culture help spark interest in writing.
I have presented at regional, national, and international conferences for writing centers and tutoring, including the following: • “First in Texas: Supporting College of the Mainland’s Co-Requisite Course Model Implementation with Embedded Tutors.” June 2018: The 2018 Global MindED Conference., Denver, Colorado. • “Limping, Primping, and Pimping: A Writing Center Coordinator's Journey to Provide Equitable Services to Adult Basic Education Students.” June 2018: International Symposium of English Writing Centers in Chinese Universities.
